Life lessons and imperfect love turn teenager Finn into a philosophical adult. Delphine Short, aka Finny, comes of age slowly in Kramon's quirky debut, a drawn-out story pervaded at times with a flavor of Alice in Wonderland. Growing up in Maryland, Finny falls in love at age 14 with Earl Henckel, the sensitive son of narcoleptic pianist Menalcus/5(23). I was very glad to meet Finny earlier this year at a conference and talk to him about a few of his thoughts in these books especially on the Regulative Principle. If you want to read a book that exalts King Jesus, the church of Jesus Christ, and the historical teachings /5(19). In the novel “A Separate Peace” by John Knowles, the relationship between Phineas and Gene is greatly influenced by Gene’s undying amount of loyalty to Finny. Gene is a rather unstable main character who doesn’t have a lot of confidence in himself and isn’t the most courageous person, so he is easily influenced by the much more. Finny is the only character in the novel for whom Knowles does not provide a last name. Unlike Gene Forrester, whose name offers two different meanings (well-born and hardy), Finny's character needs no qualification: Finny is just Finny. True to his aquatic-sounding name, Finny lives in action like a fish in water — moving, playing.

[Jeffrey Cooper] -- High school whiz kid Phineas "Finny" Waters goes to extraordinary lengths to get beautiful Bonnie Lee Butterfield's attention, but Bonnie Lee has her sights set on his brawny brother Randy. Finny has finally been forced to confront the fact that Gene did, in fact, willfully cause his accident. Finny identifies the motive, better than Gene can himself, as a momentary blind impulse. Finny clearly wants to justify forgiving Gene. Finny naively believes the best of . "Finny is a sprawling book about life, love, and growing up. Kramon balances tragedy and comedy as he explores the tension between expectations and reality, hope and disappointment, the people we want to be and the people we really are. "What I mean is, I love winter, and when you really love something, then it loves you back, in whatever way it has to love." I didn't think that this was true, [ ] but it was like every other thought and belief of Finny's: it should have been true.

“Aey-uh,” he said. This weird New England affirmative—maybe it I spelled “aie-huh”—always made me laugh, as Finny knew, so I had to laugh, which made me feel less sarcastic and less scared. With the hindsight of fifteen years, Gene remembers the first time his friend Finny convinced him to climb a dangerously tall tree over a river. The book was notable for the impressively vivid pictures of life in New York that Jack Finney painted, earning the author further recognition. The author has written short stories like ‘Breakfast in Bed’, I’m Scared’, and ‘The Widow’s Walk’, this along with novels and plays.
